High-speed internet for mobile devices. What is the most profitable mobile Internet? Choosing an operator

We quickly launched networks in large cities of the country, rushed to the airports, and the old-timers entered a protracted struggle for a subscriber in a new competitive environment.

UiP took control of the topic. We cover all the important advances from operators and the state, collected in a visual form and calculated for a comfortable web surfing. And now we decided on a large-scale 3G test - 20 measurements of internet speed throughout Kiev.

Map of measurements of 3G Internet speed for Kyivstar, life :), MTS / 3Mob and Intertelecom in Kiev:

image is clickable

We tested 3G Internet using the SpeedTest [App Store, free] application in places with the highest possible signal level. Measurements were taken twice; the best result was used. For technical reasons, it was not possible to measure the speed of 3Mob / MTS in the area of Moscow Square. The intersection of Dnieper Embankment and Akhmatova is a dead zone for life :) and Intertelecom. The result of Intertelecom at Cape Nivki, which was significantly higher than the average speed, was not used in the table of averaged speeds in order to avoid data distortion.

OperatorAverage download speedAverage recoil speedNumber of measurements
Kyivstar11.9 Mbps2.26 Mbps 20
life :)13.3 Mbps 1.75 Mbps18
3Mob / MTS3.47 Mbps0.42 Mbps19
Intertelecom3.76 Mbps1.95 Mbps18

Kyivstar

Stable network with high download speed and the best data upload speed in Kiev. In addition, at most measurement points, the test showed a very small ping delay - 20-40 ms.

The optimal tariff for Kiev:

Smartphone Extra(2.5 GB and non-chargeable social networks, free intranet and 250 min. To other operators) for 150 UAH / month.

life :)

The operator is the leader in download speed in Kiev, but has at least one "dead zone" without 3G - on Osokorki. The upload speed is very good, the ping is minimal.

The optimal tariff for Kiev:

3G + Smartphone M(2 GB and non-chargeable social networks, free intranet and 100 minutes to other operators) for 95 UAH / month.

MTS / 3Mob

On average in Kiev, the third generation 3Mob network shows a good download speed, but the upload is weak. And ping is twice as high as that of competitors.

At the moment, MTS has only deployed a 3G network, also covered selected shopping centers and airports. As a temporary measure, subscribers are encouraged to use the 3Mob partner network (therefore, the measurement results are valid for both operators). Since the 3G network of 3Mob has a rather weak coverage, every now and then the subscriber is transferred to the MTS network with sluggish EDGE Internet. The return to 3G should be automatic, but the process can take a long time. Quite often you have to turn on / off airplane mode for forced re-registration in the network.

Optimal tariffs for Kiev:

MTS - Smartphone 3G First(2 GB (then the speed drops to 128 Kbps) and free intranet) for 85 UAH / month.

3Mob - Internet M(7.5 GB (250 MB / day), free intranet, 100 min. To other operators and landlines) for 75 UAH / month.

Intertelecom

The operator has covered Kiev well and shows a good result in data download and upload as for the network of the EVDO Rev.B + standard, the latency is average. There is at least one "dead zone", like life :) - on Osokorki.

Intertelecom is the only operator in the CDMA test, which imposes certain restrictions. Not every smartphone is compatible with this network, and after updating the firmware, you need to install the settings profile in service center... On the other hand, the operator has the best coverage in Ukraine and has fast internet on the main highways, and tariffs are low and allow unlimited traffic.

The optimal tariff for Kiev:

Smartphone 50+(2 GB (then the speed drops to 256 Kbps), free intranet, 150 min. To other operators) for 50 UAH / month.

SPECIAL PROJECT:

Everyone has heard more than once about second, third and fourth generation mobile networks. Some may have already read about the networks of the future - the fifth generation. But the questions - what does G, E, 3G, H, 3G +, 4G or LTE mean on a smartphone screen and what among this faster still worry many people. We will answer them.

These icons indicate the type of connection of your smartphone, tablet or modem to the mobile network.

1. G(GPRS - General Packet Radio Services): The slowest and outdated packet data connection option. The first mobile Internet standard, implemented by means of a superstructure over GSM (after CSD connection up to 9.6 kbps). The maximum speed of the GPRS channel is 171.2 kbps. At the same time, the real one, as a rule, is an order of magnitude lower and the Internet is not always efficient here in principle.

2. E(EDGE or EGPRS - Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution): Faster add-on over 2G and 2.5G. Digital data transmission technology. EDGE speed is about 3 times higher than GPRS: up to 474.6 kbps. However, it also belongs to the second generation of wireless communication and is already obsolete. The real speed of EDGE is usually kept in the region of 150-200 kbps and directly depends on the location of the subscriber - that is, the workload of the base station in a particular area.

3. 3 G(Third Generation - third generation). Here, not only data transmission, but also "voice" is possible over the network. The quality of voice transmission in 3G networks (if both interlocutors are within their range of action) can be an order of magnitude higher than in 2G (GSM). Internet speed in 3G is also much higher, and its quality, as a rule, is already quite sufficient for comfortable work on mobile devices ah and even stationary computers via USB modems. In this case, your current position can affect the data transfer rate, incl. whether you are in one place or moving in transport:

  • Stay motionless: typically up to 2 Mbps
  • Move at speeds up to 3 km / h: up to 384 kbps
  • You are moving at speeds up to 120 km / h: up to 144 kbps.

4. 3,5 G, 3G +,H,H +(HSPDA - High-Speed Downlink Packet Access): The next high-speed packet data add-on is already over 3G. In this case, the data transfer rate is very close to 4G and in H mode it is up to 42 Mbps. In the real life Mobile Internet in this mode average works with mobile operators at speeds of 3-12 Mbit / s (sometimes higher). For those who are not versed: this is very fast and quite enough to watch online videos in not very high quality (resolution) or download heavy files with a stable connection.

Also, 3G has a video call function:

5. 4G, LTE(Long-Term Evolution is a long-term development, the fourth generation of mobile Internet). This technology used only for data transmission (not for "voice"). The maximum download speed here is up to 326 Mbps, upload is 172.8 Mbps. The real values are again an order of magnitude lower than the declared ones, but they still amount to tens of megabits per second (in practice, they are often comparable to the H mode; in conditions of Moscow congestion, usually 10-50 Mbps). At the same time, faster PING and the technology itself make 4G the most preferred standard for mobile Internet in modems. Smartphones and tablets in 4G (LTE) networks keep the battery charge longer than in 3G.

6. LTE-A(LTE Advanced - LTE upgrade). The peak data transfer rate here is up to 1 Gbps. In reality, the Internet is capable of operating at speeds up to 300 Mbps (5 times faster than conventional LTE).

7. VoLTE(Voice over LTE - voice over LTE, as an additional development of technology): technology for the transmission of voice calls over LTE networks based on IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The connection speed is up to 5 times faster than 2G / 3G, and the quality of the conversation and voice transmission is even higher and cleaner.

8. 5 G(fifth generation cellular based on IMT-2020). The standard of the future is still under development and testing. The data transfer rate in the commercial version of the networks is promised to be up to 30 times higher than LTE: the maximum data transfer can be up to 10 Gbit / s.

Of course, you can use any of the above technologies if it is supported by your equipment. Also, its work depends on the capabilities of the mobile operator itself at a particular point of location of the subscriber and his tariff plan.

The fastest mobile Internet in Russia is provided by MTS, the leader in Moscow is Tele2, according to experts of the Radio Frequency Center, subordinate to Roskomnadzor. Other operators do not agree with this data

MTS is the leader among operators in terms of the average speed of mobile Internet in Russia. This conclusion was reached by experts of the Radio Frequency Center of the Central Federal District, subordinate to Roskomnadzor, said at a conference in Moscow on May 26 general director Center Dmitry Mitrofanov. The study was carried out according to the Roskomnadzor methodology with measurements in 52 cities: experts recorded the data transfer rate to the subscriber.

The average speed of MTS mobile Internet was 6.6 Mbit / s, while in the market as a whole it turned out to be lower - 5.4 Mbit / s. Above the "average Russian" Internet speed and MegaFon - 5.6 Mbit / s. The third place was taken by VimpelCom (Beeline brand), whose network speed was 5.2 Mbit / s. Tele2 transfers data at an average speed of 4.8 Mbps. The last place was taken by the Crimean operator "K-Telecom" (Win Mobile brand) with the indicator twice lower than the market average - 2 Mbit / s.

The radio frequency center has been measuring the quality of communication since 2015. It has improved over the year, says Mitrofanov. For example, in Moscow average speed data transmission has doubled - from 3.2 to 6.1 Mbit / s. This is due to the increase in the number of base stations for signal transmission using LTE (4G) technology, explains the deputy general director of the center. According to Roskomnadzor, over the year the number of LTE base stations in Russia increased by 109%, to 72 thousand. MTS has the most of them - 27 thousand. MegaFon has 26 thousand such stations, VimpelCom has 11 thousand, Tele2 - almost 4 thousand

The fastest mobile Internet is received by residents of the Central Federal District, and the slowest - by the Far East, said Mitrofanov. In Moscow, experts put Tele2 in first place in terms of data transmission speed, which. It is followed by MTS and VimpelCom. Only MegaFon, which took the last place, had a data transfer rate lower than the average in the capital. Mitrofanov did not disclose specific data on each of the operators in the capital.

Operators' representatives differed in their assessments of the study. Only MTS agreed with the conclusions: “The company is leading both in the number of 4G base stations and in the coverage area - our networks of the fourth generation,” said the operator's representative Dmitry Solodovnikov. At the same time, according to Solodovnikov, in Moscow "it is incorrect to compare the parameters of the MTS network with the network of the newcomer of the rating": it has several times fewer subscribers, so the load is five to seven times lower than that of the Big Three operators.

Who in Saransk will be the fastest to catch a Pokemon

How we did it
Soon Saransk will host the stage of the Grand Prix in figure skating, which is already called the rehearsal of the 2018 championship. The city will be filled with tourists, Instagram will be filled with pictures of tourists, it's time to fill the "Ratings" with texts for tourists. The locals will also come in handy: they will leave, and we will live here.
So, we decided to find out how things are with the mobile Internet in the most popular tourist spots in the city. We bought five SIM cards from different operators (Tele2, Iota, Beeline, MTS and Megafon) and measured the speed in different places using the Speedtest app for android.

We checked the quality of communication: at Millennium Square, at Soborka, in Pushkin Park, on the embankment, at the Admiral Hotel (the rest of the hotels are mainly within the tourist areas), at the train station and at the bus station, at the Erzya Museum, next to the RDK and the Opera Theater and ballet. Ranking places were distributed depending on the signal quality and ping value at each point.

Ping is the server response time to your request. The higher its value, the longer it will take to open the desired page.

The new federal operator is still developing Saransk: there is an official point of sale in City-Park on basement floor, but, according to the consultant, soon another one will open at RIO. The process of connecting to YOTA is standard: you give your passport, sign the contract, get two SIM cards - one for yourself, the second for your “friend”. The Internet is set up by a consultant (we chose this option), or you can take a leaflet with a description of the step-by-step settings with you and figure it out at home on your own. All the same, the main thing will have to be done by yourself: download the YOTA-application (there is no Internet yet, yes, you will have to look for Wi-Fi),.
We did not go further than this - not one of the sold SIM cards. Tested on iOs, on android - to no avail. It's a pity, but YOTA drops out of the rankings.

4.Tele2

We will give the youngest of the other operators a discount on age, forgive not the best connection performance and leave it on the fourth line of the rating.
Best of all, Tele2 catches near the RDK (almost 20 megabits per second) and in Pushkin Park (19.43 megabits per second), but in other cases the speed is less pleasing. For example, 3.54 megabits were taken out at the station, and 5.44 on the embankment, and this provided a good ping and a 4G connection.

3. Megaphone

Megaphone presented a couple of surprises: it gave an excellent connection where the others passed, and, unfortunately, vice versa.
Apparently, they understand how important it is to send "I'm on my way, meet the day after tomorrow" to relatives and friends, so the operator shows a record 38.16 megabits per second at the bus station and 29.25 megabits at the station. Near the RDK, the quality of the connection is also pleasing with the numbers on the screen - almost 33 megabits. Actually, that's all. The rest of the city sights do not even get up to 20 megabits.

2. MTS

On the embankment, MTS issued its first 30.11 megabits per second, the rest of the results are slightly more modest: 28 megabits - at the Opera and Ballet Theater, almost 22 - near the Erzya Museum, 18.79 - in the "Admiral". MTS has the lowest rates at city railway stations. You can surf the Internet at this speed if you simultaneously comprehend Zen.

The article will tell you which mobile operator is better for the Internet and how to strengthen the 3G signal.

Navigation

Users of mobile operators will connect to various tariffs not only in order to profitably communicate by phone. People are also interested in the connection to the Internet. high speed... If in the first case, communication on the phone is usually not accompanied by fatal problems, then with access to the Internet, many users have a number of difficulties. And many users would like to talk about this.

In today's review, we will discuss which 3G and 4G Internet for which mobile operator is the best, fastest and most profitable: “ Megaphone», « Beeline», « Tele 2», « MTS". You will also learn how to strengthen the signal and increase the speed of 3G Internet.

"Megaphone"

"Megaphone"

Mobile operator " Megaphone»Strives to attract as many users as possible, and therefore every time he uses more and more modern equipment... By switching to 4G Internet technology, the operator has even slightly overtaken all of its Russian competitors. But also from 3G, of course, “ Megaphone”Did not refuse.

To find out which connection is the best among all mobile operators, you first need to familiarize yourself with some of the nuances. For example, in a city your Internet may work well, and you will freely work with it on your gadget. But when you leave the city, then sometimes there are some problems.

The fact is that for wireless communication, appropriate stations are needed, which should be installed almost everywhere. Otherwise, the connection itself will be bad. So, the company “ Megaphone»Strive more than others to build their own stations wherever possible. For this reason, the Internet on " Megaphone"Has significant advantages.

The Internet speed itself is as follows:

  • 3G - 5 Mbps
  • 4G - 50 Mbps

We do not know how the situation will be at the moment, but until recently 500 MB of traffic on " Megaphone»Cost about two hundred and more rubles. As a result, we have fast internet with a well-established ubiquitous connection, but not quite at children's prices.

Beeline

Beeline

Concerning " Beeline», Then the connection works fine here if you are in the city itself (especially in a metropolis) or not so far from it. Accordingly, this mobile operator will be most beneficial for those who live in large or medium-sized cities. In other cases, everything depends on the established communication, which we have already discussed above.

Internet speed here is as follows:

  • 3G - 6 Mbps
  • 4G - 45 Mbps

You will have to pay for this on average two times less than for " Megaphone”, If this year everything does not change.

"MTS"

"MTS"

In comparison with the two previous most famous Russian mobile operators “ MTS"Looks a little more modest in terms of established communication. That is, not in every corner of the country you will be able to use the Internet to its fullest. In small villages " MTS"Will not be profitable.

Judging by the reviews, with regard to the Internet, about “ MTS”There are unflattering rumors. Users living outside large and medium-sized cities are especially often complaining about this connection. For what reason this happens, we have already found out. But on " MTS»There is a large selection of various tariff plans which is only a plus.

Internet speed:

  • 3G - 3 Mbps
  • 4G - 40 Mbps

Judging by the prices, today “ MTS»Belongs to the most expensive Internet providers. Let's see how he will behave this year.

"Tele 2"

In this case, we have a mobile operator that has not spread its communications throughout Russia and is an order of magnitude inferior in this matter to its Russian competitors. Based on this, connect to the Internet via " Tele 2»You can not always and not everywhere - mainly in the central regions of the country. True, the cost of the Internet is the lowest here.

Internet speed:

  • 3G - 20 Mbps
  • 4G - 40 Mbps

It can also be noted that 3G Internet on “ Tele 2»Much faster than the previous operators described by us.

Which 3G and 4G Internet is better for which mobile operator?

Based on the foregoing, it can be noted that “ Tele 2"The fastest 3G Internet was observed until this year. The best 4G Internet is offered by " Megaphone».

The most stable Internet connection is also seen for Megafon, the worst is “ Tele 2"(But the cheapest). The most expensive Internet - " MTS"; the cheapest - " Tele 2". You can draw your own conclusions.

How to Strengthen the Signal and Increase the Speed of 3G Internet?

If it seemed to you that the speed of your mobile Internet is insufficient, then in this case you can take the following steps to strengthen the signal and improve the Internet speed:

  • Install the device to which you are connecting the 3G modem closer to the window (just like with conventional radio antennas). It is best to use a USB extension cable so that you can pull the modem out into the street.
  • Make a special antenna for catching the signal and wrap it with the polished end around the 3G modem in the area where the SIM card is installed. How to make an antenna, see the video at the end of the article.
