The easiest way to transfer any image to fabric or wood. The easiest way to transfer any image to fabric or wood How to transfer an image from paper to plastic

Pad printing is one of the most popular technologies for applying images to promotional products and business gifts. This is a type of intaglio printing, during which ink is transferred from the printing plate to the product using a special swab.

Tampo printing is used to apply corporate identity, primarily on plastic and PVC items - pens, key chains, flash drives, watches and other office accessories. The most popular is pad printing on plastic. Pad printing on wood is also often performed, especially if the image cannot be applied with a laser (it can melt the varnish coating of the object).

Pad printing technology

First, a printable is created. In a special plate on a photopolymer layer, the image of the future print is etched: letters and other elements are "pressed" into the plane of the printing plate. Then paint is applied to it, the excess of which is removed with a special knife. And the process of tampon printing itself begins: each time a silicone tampon is applied first to the printing plate, then to the product. After a short drying time, the application is ready.

Applying logos to gifts using pad printing

Pad printing on plastic products (application codes A1 and A2)

Pad printing is used for branding the most popular promotional gifts with a flat or convex surface: pens, key chains, lighters, reflectors. As a rule, we assign the application code A1 to these simplest products.

If a product is printed on silicone, requires a special setup of the equipment, the manufacture of special equipment, and also if the print area is large enough, such a product receives an A2 code, and the application is more expensive.

Pad printing on wristwatches (application code WA)

The process of printing on a dial requires disassembly and subsequent assembly of the watch, which is performed by a qualified technician. The printing process itself does not undergo any changes.

Benefits of applying a logo with pad printing

  • persistent application;
  • accurate reproduction of small picture elements;
  • the ability to print on curved surfaces;
  • low cost per product for medium and large runs.

Long-lasting application

In the process of making pad printing, the solvent included in the paint corrodes the surface of the product, and then mixes with the dissolved plastic particles, forming a homogeneous mass. This ensures the durability of the application.

Spot colors (pure colors of the Pantone color model) are vivid and saturated. To achieve the best possible match to the Pantone colors, the image is printed on a substrate. The number of colors that can be applied to a particular product depends on many factors and is specifically indicated in the card of a particular product.

It is impossible to transfer a full-color image or color transitions using tampo printing. For this it is better to choose UV printing.

Accurate reproduction of small picture elements

On smooth surfaces, pad printing can be used to apply even small graphic elements with a line thickness of 0.1 mm.

It should be borne in mind that on flat surfaces the image should fit into a circle with a diameter of 7.5 cm; the maximum image size on the handles is 55x7 mm and depends on the diameter of the handle itself. Circular printing is not possible. The relatively small area of application is technologically determined by the size of the printed swab.

The ability to print on curved surfaces

Pad printing allows you to apply an image on curved surfaces (with a small radius of curvature), because when it comes into contact with the product, the printed silicone swab changes shape.

Technological limitations do not always allow pad printing on highly curved and recessed surfaces. The possibility of application is specially indicated in the card of a specific product.

Low cost per item for medium and large runs

Pad printing, in contrast to silk screen printing, is a less labor-intensive process with a higher printing speed. Therefore, this type of application becomes economically profitable not only for large, but also for medium runs, from 300-500 pcs.

The image of the parts has been transferred to the board, greatly simplifies the assembly

Somehow I came across a video on the Internet on applying inscriptions on different surfaces using acrylic varnish. The essence there is simple, you print the inscription on a laser printer, coat it with varnish on the front side, wait for the varnish to dry, then soak the paper in warm water, carefully roll it into lumps and remove it from the dried varnish, when all the paper is removed, then only a transparent layer of varnish will remain with toner adhered to it in the form of your lettering.

But the varnish is very fragile and it is difficult to remove the paper from it without damaging it. And then the idea came to use ordinary tape instead of varnish!

Methodology

We print the inscription, glue transparent adhesive tape on the front side, iron it well, cut off the excess with scissors, and under the tap with warm water. The paper is removed very easily, but you should not rub it hard, so as not to damage the toner layer, and when it seems that the tape is perfectly cleaned of paper, then carefully look again for the presence of paper residues, because small residues of paper in water are practically transparent and invisible.

After removing the paper, there are 2 options for gluing the tape:

1. We glue immediately, without waiting for the water to dry. This makes it possible to peel off the tape several times to correct the position of the inscription.

2. Place the tape sticky side up and wait for the water to dry. A coil in the bathroom or a battery in winter works well to speed up drying. Oddly enough, the stickiness is restored completely. You need to glue it right immediately, because dried adhesive tape is difficult to peel off without damaging the inscription.

The tape remains sticky only where there is no toner! The paper is ordinary office paper.

Here are some examples of what happens:

I printed a scale into the ammeter, an inscription under the voltmeter, and + -, this is the first test on a good old experimental power supply unit.

Butterfly on a tile, made up of 2 strips of scotch tape.

It's nice to turn ordinary things "like everyone else's", with a little effort, into your own, cozy, personalized. A good way is to decorate them with an original pattern. And even if you consistently missed art lessons at school, and you draw a little worse than a fifth-grader, it doesn't matter. This simple method will allow you to decorate at least all textiles and wooden surfaces in the house with funny drawings. And please your friends with original gifts.

Authors of a popular resource among designers shutterstock offer to try simple home printing technology. It is available to every owner laser printer... Or someone who is not too lazy to go to the nearest copy center and print the desired drawing. This method will allow you to easily transfer the image to fabric or wood surface.

You will need:
Acetone (or a nail polish remover based on it);
Cotton pads;
Plastic card;
Scotch;
Ruler;
T-shirt / fabric / wooden surface to which the drawing will be transferred;
Desired image.

Step 1: print the picture on laser printer mirrored... An inkjet printer is a poor helper in this matter. does not guarantee an even distribution of ink, which will be reflected in the final result. The darker the original image, the better.

Step 2: lay down the sheet face down on a cloth or wood surface. It is advisable to fix it on one side with tape so that the picture "does not leave." Dampen a cotton ball or brush in acetone and wipe the back of the design thoroughly to keep the paper wet.

Step 3: take a plastic card and using it, like a scraper, go over the entire back of the drawing. It's like rubbing it. First from bottom to top, then from top to bottom, repeat several times. Do not press hard on the scraper to avoid tearing the print. The main rule is that all this time the paper with the image should be wet from acetone... This will help the design grab onto the fabric or wood.

Step 4: gently pull off the edge of the sheet with the image and evaluate how the process of "printing" goes. When the drawing is completely transferred, remove the paper.

You will need:
- light colored plastic,

Formic alcohol,

Picture from a laser printer,

Shaping blade

Tweezers

Varnish (can be bought at any art store).

The picture must be printed on a laser printer . Inkjet printer is not suitable .

Any paper.

In addition, it is highly desirable that the picture, which we will translate, and first print, was in vector format. These are extensions .ai, .eps, cdr. Opens in Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw applications. The vector format can significantly improve the quality of printing on a printer, and it translates better.

But you can also translate pictures in any other format (.jpg). Just then, if you look closely at the picture, you will see small dots (raster). The smaller the picture and the more small details in it, the more noticeable the raster will be.
If the desired translator contains text, it must be printed mirrored. Then the text on the plastic will be read correctly.

The process itself:
1. Roll out the plastic, cut out the picture... It is better to cut the picture not directly along its contour, but with some indentation,so that the paper completely and slightly covers the future product. Otherwise, there will be traces of the edges of the paper on the plastic. Put the picture with the front side on the plastic!

2. Wet the cotton wool with alcohol so that it is completely saturated with it. Those. completely wet.

3. Press the translator firmly against the plastic, even squeeze it a little. Now is the time to make recesses for the fittings and indicate the approximate shape of the product. But you need to spend as little time as possible on this. If you do this for a long time, it can negatively affect the translation of the image.

4. With cotton wool soaked in alcohol, abundantly wet the paper... Often I even just fill the plastic with a piece of paper with alcohol, and then soak the excess with the same cotton. The paper should be wet through and through, but not so that it floats directly in alcohol.

5. Immediately start with the "handy object" translate the picture. Everything is like in childhood with chewing gum translators: We tightly drive the "edge" over all the details of the picture. Pay special attention to the edges. Then we blot again with alcohol.

Important: the paper should not be completely dry from alcohol. Dries up - moisten again.When the picture is still translated (this is a long process, longer than 30 minutes), carefully roll up the paper with a cotton swab.

6. What is described in paragraph 5 we do two or three times periodically wetting the paper. You should try not to damage the paper itself. The leaf should remain intact and not wrinkled. Then, for the last time, fill the piece of paper on plastic with alcohol. We take away the excess with cotton wool.

7. Armed with tweezers, carefully grab the edge of the paper. It is better to choose the corner where the part of the drawing is denser, and not thin lines. Carefully, very smoothly remove the paper.

It is important to remove absolutely all paper.

If it begins to exfoliate and part, sticking, remains on the plastic, then carefully remove the remnants in small pieces. But this can only be done before the paper is completely dry.
Ideally, you should have a completely clean, damp leaf, and on the plastic - completely all the printer ink in the form of the desired pattern.

After that, we do not touch the translated picture in any way. The paint is very easy to take and the drawing can be smudged.We give the final shape to the plastic blade. In our case, these will be round earrings.

We make a hole in the oven too! In terms of time, firing takes about 30 minutes at a temperature of 130 ° C. In any case, read the instructions for use on the packaging, because the time and temperature also depend on the quality of the plastic.

Let the product cool down and varnish! It is better to use artistic varnish, acrylic, otherwise, without varnish, the image will be erased over time. When everything is ready, we dress and wear with pleasure our new exclusive jewelry!

In addition to pictures, you can also translate photos..

Jewelry can be of many different shapes. Most importantly, don't be afraid to experiment!

Heat treatment:

Plastic can not only be baked, but also boiled! A few tips for cooking:

1. Ideally, cook together as few parts with pictures as possible. At the initial stages of cooking, the paint is still strongly taken and when the parts come into contact in the water, they can stain each other and smear the drawing.
2. Throw plastic into boiling water only. If you put it in a cold place, you don't know how the printer ink will behave ...
3. After being taken out of the water, the products should be allowed to cool completely and lie down a little more (15-20 minutes).
This is necessary for the final curing of the paint. If you move your hands on a hot spot, the picture is slightly blurred. For translucent plastic, the aging time should be longer, about half an hour.
But it is most reliable to check carefully by touch. Just gently touch the drawing with your finger. If the drawing sticks, then you need to lie down some more.
4. After cooking, a whitish coating appears on the pattern. This is not scary, it can be wiped off with a thick cloth after the plastic has cooled and matured. It is important to wipe it off before wiping it with vegetable oil.
5. Drawing, in principle, is not afraid of vegetable oil, but you also need to wipe it very carefully. with great diligence, you can also lubricate. I usually soak the oil with paper towels for a long time and tediously, and then degrease it with acetone in places where there is no paint. The drawing itself cannot be wiped with acetone and alcohols.
6. Grinding, polishing, varnishing (everything is as usual) and hurray!
