He is a good leader and person. Personal qualities of the leader. The leader must trust his team

A boss is not only a position, but also a calling. What qualities should a leader have in order for subordinates to love him or at least respect and obey him? As the survey conducted by the Portal Research Center has shown, economically active Russians consider intelligence, professional competence and human decency to be the main qualities of a good boss. The rest is secondary.

According to Russians, the most important thing for a boss is intellect and intelligence. These qualities are in the first place in the rating, they got 20% of the votes (in the answer, no more than 3 options could be indicated). A good boss is also considered competent and qualified (19%), decent and honest (16%), fair (15%) and calm (14%). A very useful quality for the chef is professionalism (13%). But his managerial skills are ready to be assessed only by 7% of Russians, just like his dedication and sociability. Slightly more subordinates (8%) believe that the ideal boss is a kind boss. At the same time, only one in twentieth is sure that the chef must demonstrate a "firm hand" and be strict.

Surprisingly, only 4% of the respondents noted his leadership qualities as the advantages of a good boss - perhaps because this competence is implied, which is called "default". Only 3% are important for their leader to be consistently confident, attentive and humorous. And only two out of a hundred working citizens would like to see the boss diplomatic, democratic, generous, competent, objective, wise, charismatic and capable of showing the skills of a psychologist.

6% of respondents found it difficult to answer, and 38% named other qualities of an ideal boss. Among them, for example, punctuality, the ability to set tasks for employees, oratorical skills, initiative, as well as a well-groomed appearance, independence and the ability not to interfere with subordinates to work. Career experience from scratch is welcomed - “that general is good who was a soldier,” the respondents explained. By the way, the portrait of the ideal boss in the minds of Russians can be painted with more than one pink paint. The boss, according to some respondents, should, within reasonable limits, show authoritarianism, cynicism, audacity, and suspicion. In general, "an affectionate and gentle animal", by definition of subordinates.

A good boss is smart, competent and decent

A boss is not only a position, but also a calling. What qualities should a leader have in order for subordinates to love him or at least respect and obey him? As shown by a survey conducted by the Research Center of the portal, economically active Russians consider the main qualities of a good boss to be intelligence, professional competence and human decency. The rest is secondary. More information ...

When we are assigned to our the first governing position we, as a rule, spend some time beside ourselves with happiness. Most likely, it was a welcome promotion, but even if it is unexpected, it can only increase the degree of euphoria from a sudden promotion. But, of course, as soon as this first joy fades away, many begin to get lost, timid, gain self-doubt. It is the new bosses who are very often fettered by the so-called "paralysis of the perfectionist", when, for fear of making mistakes from the very beginning, a person cannot start performing his new duties and goes to work day after day, doing practically nothing, and only diligently imitating a stormy activity.

But sooner or later, and this will be seen more high bosses, and then it is quite possible that the question of the expediency of a new appointment will arise. To prevent this from happening, you need to act more courageously. Knowledge of the main pits and bumps located on this path will help in this. Knowing the rules makes it much easier to get into the game, isn't it?

1. The leader does not allow familiarity with himself... Let's start with common truths, because it is their oblivion that leads to the most crushing defeats and failures in. If you suddenly decide that all this subordination is an outdated philistinism, and during your glorious "reign" everyone will turn to each other on "you" and put a fart pillow on the boss's chair, for the sake of laughter, then this is a sure way to lose all respect from the side of the collective. Realize that most people need to be in command to remember what role they play in the company, or, more simply, who is the boss. So a status chair, a heavy table, keeping a distance is not just a show off, but the tools necessary for leading any team.

2. The boss is not a patch for every hole... Many people have a desire to correct the mistake of a subordinate in order to show him “how it should be”, strengthening their authority and demonstrating to everyone that the leader is the last line of defense of the company, which cannot be broken. Sometimes such "actions" are really effective, but more often than not they turn the boss into a plug for any hole, and his subordinates into drooling infants who do not want to be responsible for anything.

3. A good leader is always result-oriented.... Encouraging commitment or pursuit of a result is a surefire way to never see that result. Let's understand that it is not important to you how effective an employee is, but only the results can be praised. Even if you want to praise someone who is clearly trying, then you need to gently hint that the effort itself is only a means to achieve the main goal, the result.

4. It is impossible to give a person a decent salary... Trying to start your leadership by setting a good salary for everyone is simply a waste of the company's budget. People do not know gratitude in such matters, very soon the new salary will again seem too small to them, and they will again be unhappy. A good boss is stingy with increments. It doesn't sound very nice, but it is.

5. The leader does not participate in strife and does not encourage them... All office wars should be suppressed by the chief in the bud, if they were noticed by him. But most often it is impossible to deal with intrigues, they are an integral part of the production process. So at least one should in every possible way avoid being entangled in one of them.

6. The boss always chooses the right path... His faith in him is unshakable, and those who wished to show off, mockingly doubting him in public, should be strictly put in place with an iron hand. Objections and comments can be expressed to the boss personally, coming to him with constructive suggestions and a report. Communicate this to the team at any opportunity. And the one who decided to show off in front of the secretaries, loudly doubting your choice, earned himself an indicative spanking, not otherwise.

7. Admission of mistakes should be decisive, bold, immediate... Only the last insignificant and weakling does not know how to admit his mistake when it is already obvious. Do it quickly, boldly. Accept it as if it was not you who allowed it, but someone else whom you are roughly scolding. Everyone is wrong, so there is nothing particularly wrong with that. In cases where your mistake is far from obvious, then you should avoid admitting it. In a couple of weeks it will become just a vague story, so you don't need to constantly berate yourself.

8. Personal affairs diligently stay away from business... Because mixing them together is another cocktail that can knock any team down. Affirm it in words and confirm it in practice. Personal and business should be on opposite sides and never overlap. Even having sex with a secretary (which is far from uncommon, which is already there), a good boss has only a part of effective relaxation therapy, but not a love affair.

9. A bad leader always has an employee out of place... A good one asks himself every day: "Is each of my employees engaged in such a thing that he does best?" You must constantly make sure that not a single cake-maker in your team is wearing boots, which is far from uncommon for most of today's companies.

10. No one ever fulfills all their duties... And there is no point in lifting up your eyes to the sky and crying out for justice. Everyone naturally wants to get more by working less. So the usual salary system is very outdated. An effective method to keep employees in good shape today is the bonus system. Let the salary itself be small, but the employees will have many bonuses: for the absence of mistakes in work, for the absence of delays, for meeting deadlines, for something else there. What bonuses can be easily deprived of a "relaxed" employee. This will save the company money and shape the gape. Everyone happens to relax, but that doesn't mean you have to pay out of pocket for it. Or from the pocket of the company, no difference.

In general, of course, this is only rough rules that help you be a good boss. The real art of leadership has been studied for many years, honed and perfected. Wherein we wish you the fastest success.

Hello! In this article, we'll show you how to become a good leader who is loved, appreciated, and respected by his people. You will find out what qualities a person in a leading position should have. What is the difference between female leaders and male directors. What mistakes should be avoided.

Why be a good leader

Supervisor Is an effective manager. It is on his ability to establish the production process and find an approach to the team that the qualitative and quantitative indicators of the company, department, etc. depend.

Good or bad boss is very subjective. After all, you cannot find the perfect person who will please everyone. Nevertheless, the leader must be respected, appreciated and a little afraid of his subordinates.

Many directors or bosses who have just taken a leading position behave "incorrectly" and this affects the atmosphere of the team, which entails a decrease in the efficiency of each employee.

In order to make it clear what is at stake, consider the following example.

3 days ago a new chief took over the department of the company. He is quite young and came to this position from another company. As a specialist, he does not know much, but nevertheless he does not want to learn and learn something new. He's the Boss. Therefore, he behaves arrogantly, shifts part of his work to others and is incompetent in many issues. He considers himself an excellent leader, because he thinks that he is afraid and respected.

In fact, the staff does not like him, does not appreciate, does not respect him and considers him an arrogant upstart. Looking at the boss, employees lose enthusiasm, and the department's performance gradually decreases. This is due to the fact that everyone works on their own.

Team Is a union of people who work to achieve one goal. It can be compared to a watch mechanism, where each gear is important in its own way. And the boss is the cherished key that starts the mechanism and knows how to adjust its work.

If you want to improve the quality of the work of a department or company, earn the respect of colleagues and subordinates, move further up the career ladder, then you definitely need to become a good leader. And now we will tell you how to do this.

Who can be a leader

In fact, good leaders are not born, they are made. At any age, a person can feel the strength of a leader. According to statistics, 4 out of 10 bosses become good leaders. This indicator is not affected by either gender or age. An excellent director can be either a young purposeful university graduate or an elderly man with rich experience.

Who is better man or woman

In our time, both a man and a woman can become a leader. Women directors are tacticians and men are strategists. It is more difficult for the fair sex to gain the authority of the team. You will have to prove your professionalism, especially if most of the employees are male.

Men are more resistant to stress. They don't go to extremes so quickly. Nevertheless, women are more attentive to their subordinates.

Answer unequivocally to the question "Who is better?" it is impossible, because everything depends on the person and his character. Therefore, women and men alike can and should fight for the title of "Good Leader".

The qualities of an ideal boss

In order to become a first-class leader, you need to realistically assess your positive and negative sides of character. All people are not perfect, but people in leadership positions must be able to suppress the negative sides of their temper and develop good traits.

So, let's take a look at what an ideal director should be:

  • Quick-witted;
  • Own the basics;
  • Responsible;
  • Punctual;
  • Psychologically stable;
  • Human;
  • Compulsory;
  • Punctual;
  • Be able to cope with your fears;
  • Do not be afraid to take risks;
  • Active;
  • Teachable;
  • Lazy;
  • Peaceful;
  • Friendly;
  • Stupid;
  • Not melancholic, etc.

Mistakes Most Leaders Make

Not every boss can be promoted to the rank of a good leader. All due to the fact that they make a number of mistakes that discredit them in the eyes of their subordinates.

Let's consider the most common mistakes:

  1. Lack of desire to strain... Some managers, as soon as they take office, think that they have climbed to the top of the mountain and now they can relax and do nothing, thereby shifting some of their work onto subordinates. In fact, you need to clearly understand that the higher the position, the more you will have to work. Subordinates can help you in the early days, but you must do your job yourself.
  2. Inability to value employees... Every employee who does his job well deserves minimal reward (at least verbal).
  3. Inability to organize work... The manager must thoroughly know the entire production process. Very often, due to the fact that the boss does not understand all stages of production and does not know who is responsible for what, any troubles are attributed to the unprofessionalism of the team.
  4. Lack of desire to improve, learn something new... Very often, managers who have held a position for many, many years believe that they know everything and do not strive to learn and learn something new. But life and technology do not stand still. And a modern person must improve, especially a leader.
  5. Assignment of other people's merits... Let's look at this error with an example. There is a talented employee in the scientific laboratory who has made some discovery. Instead of telling everyone about the achievement of his employee, the head of the laboratory tells everyone that "THEY" did it. Such a boss believes that this discovery is his personal merit, since he is a class worker if, under his leadership, an employee has reached such heights.
  6. Manifestation of rudeness and disrespect for the team... Sometimes managers do not think about the fact that their emotions need to be controlled and break down for any reason on their subordinates. Of course, there are different moments, and so you want to let off some steam. But you need to learn to restrain yourself, because ordinary workers, more often than not, have nothing to do with your bad mood.
  7. Insecurity of their employees... If the director puts his interests above others, then he never and nowhere defends his team. He does not understand controversial situations and does not look for the culprit. It is easier for him to punish people (to impose a fine, to reprimand, etc.) than to figure out who is right and who is wrong.

This is not the whole list of mistakes made by managers. In any case, you need to remember that subordinates are people for whom you bear a certain responsibility, and their professional failures are the failures of a manager who could not establish the production process.

Basic rules of a good leader

One of the founders of management, Peter Drucker, argues that in order to become a good leader, you need to use the following 5 rules under all circumstances.

Rule 1. Learn to manage your time.

Rule 2. Pay special attention to the end result, not the production process. Interfere with the work of your employees less. Explain to them that everyone is doing a very important process and is responsible for it. Make each employee feel like they are a little boss.

Rule 3. Use and build on the strengths and positive qualities of yourself and your people.

Rule 4. Always prioritize things correctly while avoiding secondary tasks.

Rule 5. Make effective decisions.

Tips for those looking to be a top-notch leader

Analyzing the activities of many successful leaders, we have drawn up recommendations that will help each boss to earn authority in the team.

  • Behave yourself "right" from your first day as a leader.
  • Study the team well. Become familiar with all the personal files of your employees immediately after taking office. Try to remember their names. So, your subordinates will see that they are not just a labor force for you, but first of all people.
  • Always be honest and keep your promises.
  • Discuss the production process in the team more often, let your subordinates prove themselves, ask them to take the initiative.
  • Don't be arrogant, but be a little simpler. After all, the same people work in the team, only one rank lower than you.
  • Do not berate employees in public. Better to chastise a negligent employee in your office.
  • Praise and reward staff at general meetings. You will give incentive to others.
  • Don't sit around. A good leader always has a lot of work to do. Bad directors shift some of their work to subordinates, and then toil from idleness.
  • Do not be afraid to lose your position and let talented employees develop.
  • Control your emotions.
  • Rate yourself for the worst employee. After all, part of the blame for his failures lies with you. Perhaps you didn’t motivate him or assigned him an assignment that was too difficult.
  • Do not spare money for material incentives for staff. If people do not have incentives (for example, in the form of bonuses for the highest performance), then they will work half-heartedly without enthusiasm. Remember that average employees work for the average salary.
  • Learn to resolve any domestic disputes. Do not stand aside if there is a conflict in the team. Try to understand the current situation and help resolve it peacefully.
  • Demand discipline. Use foreclosure sometimes. The main thing is that your claims are relevant.
  • Do not indulge the whims of your employees. Behave in a friendly but strict manner. Otherwise, you will be ignored.
  • Show your competence and do not shift all problems to subordinates.
  • Congratulate the team on the holidays, take an interest in health, family, children of employees.
  • Never go to extremes, and evaluate any situation soberly.
  • Study psychology and attend psychological training. The healthy climate of your team depends on this.
  • Determine the place of each employee in the team. For example, someone is a generator of ideas, while someone likes monotonous work with papers, and someone is an inspirer.
  • Don't highlight your favorites. Try to treat all employees well.

Conclusion

A good leader is a kind of lighter. He is able to set his subordinates in the right mood, kindle the fire of enthusiasm and provoke them to do their work better and faster. The boss may not be able to do what his employees are able to do, but he is obliged to organize the work correctly and give the correct instructions to subordinates.

Almost anyone can be a good leader. The main thing is to want this, not to be afraid of changes and constantly improve.

A successful enterprise, a rapidly developing structure, a large-scale organization can be headed by a person who has all the valuable qualities that are very important for leadership. Developed leadership, business and professional qualities of a good leader make him valuable and respected among subordinates, as well as senior management. To become successful and irreplaceable, a person who has taken a leading position must continuously engage in self-development. All the qualities that are given to him by nature need to be cut, and he will also have to acquire some missing qualities and work hard on them.

A good leader is, first of all, a personality

If you ask any employee or worker what is so outstanding about his boss, the first quality will be called what concerns his personal characteristics. High-ranking persons who are not burdened with moral principles, unfortunately, are often encountered, but there are also those who honor the code of honor. Such personal qualities are necessary for a person who is able to manage and not because of such job requirements, it is simply impossible without this to become respected among subordinates.

Alienation of the team, an unfavorable atmosphere in the team, even confrontation can be caused by the lack of the necessary moral characteristics in the boss. Under the leadership of a dishonest boss, subordinates are able to unite into a team that will become the opposing side. Management of such a team is very difficult and does not give the results that they can count on. Whoever heads a leading position, a man or a woman, but if he has high moral principles, he will be honored in the team.

A manager often serves as an example for his employees, therefore, excellent physical shape, stable, balanced mental state, adequate response in a variety of stressful situations can become an excellent model for subordinates. Optimism, good spirits, responsiveness and goodwill in relation not only to the team, but also to everyone around them, will not only increase the boss's rating in the eyes of employees, but also help him in successful career development.

Why does a good boss need business qualities?

“A Swiss, a reaper, and a gambler” - about all possible functions should be performed by a good leader, but for this he should not only be a great professional and a person with a capital letter, but also become a business-like, pragmatic, capable of doing business. What business qualities are there, and how do they contribute to the career of a successful leader?

A very valuable quality is ambition, a person who possesses it is capable of great things, he is ambitious and persistent in achieving his goal. Leadership is in the blood of such people, they are always ready to lead and manage. The ability to organize your activities and people to perform work is also a very important quality of a business leader. A good boss doesn't have to be a perfectionist; on the contrary, he must be able to competently delegate authority.

The ability to respond quickly to any, even non-standard issue helps a modern boss a lot. The initiative of a business person does not allow him to wonder why he has to do this, he basically assumes all responsibility in solving the problem. Self-control and coordination of subordinates, as well as the ability to plan their working hours and the entire team, are very effective in achieving high performance. A truly business leader will not be afraid of innovative ideas; on the contrary, he will calculate the risks and, if they are justified, he will lead a promising enterprise and lead the masses.

A great professional in his field

Being a highly qualified specialist is the main requirement for a leader, since only a person who knows his job perfectly has the right to lead it. Professional skills include education. High qualification of a managerial employee is one of the mandatory requirements in many organizations. Competence and work experience in their specialty are also considered prerequisites by employers.

Extensive thinking, a large-scale vision of the situation, being an erudite, striving for self-development and career growth - these are the qualities that can make a leader successful, and the ability to use new, better working methods will help teams also become successful professionals in their field.

All of us, occupying not the most key positions in a company or organization, as a rule, show dissatisfaction with certain qualities and behaviors of our bosses. And, of course, each of us assures ourselves that, they say, if I were in their place, I would be a good boss, in which employees.However, upon reaching the desired position, fear seizes us, and we keep asking ourselves the question of volume by the head. We propose today to understand what a real leader should be and what qualities he should have.

a leader and lead people along?

Specialists identify several basic skills, possessing which, a person can succeed in the position of a boss. As a rule, in large organizations they try to promote people who already have most of the necessary abilities to key positions. The missing skills will have to be developed in the process. We propose to dwell on each of them in more detail.

Employee motivation

A good leader is, first of all, a person who knows clear answers to the following questions. Why does your organization need these employees? What keeps them in your company and prevents them from going to competitors? What makes people stay in your organization even after tough times? A talented boss certainly understands that money isn't the reason. More precisely, not only them. There are many other reasons that you as a leader need to understand. Therefore, in order to be a good, class teacher, you must follow the recommendations:

Remember, we are primarily driven by our values and self-respect. So, if you show respect to each of your employees, regardless of their position, you can be sure that the team will answer you with 100% efficiency.

As much as possible, have a heart-to-heart talk with your employees. Try to find out how much they enjoy their daily work, whether they get satisfaction from it. This information will help you further.

Offer your employees some perks that are important to them. So, if your employees are concerned about their own health and physical fitness, then give them the opportunity to visit the gym. If their priority is family, then let them take the kids to school in the morning and pick them up at lunchtime. Believe me, people will appreciate your concern for them, which will have an extremely positive effect on both the microclimate in the team and the productivity and efficiency of work.

Setting goals

If you are wondering how to become a good head of a sales department or another department or even an organization, then keep in mind that a very important aspect is the ability of the boss to clearly identify. So, each employee should clearly understand what the boss expects of him. With specific goals, it will be easier for a person to focus on the current job. Therefore, clearly communicate to each of the subordinates your expectations and deadlines for completing tasks, and also explain what you will then do with the results obtained and why you need them.

Assessment of work

While criticism is overwhelmingly negative in the majority of people, it is an integral part of a well-functioning workflow. However, make every effort to explain to your employees that a conversation with a small assessment of the results of their work is by no means a reason to find fault with their work. Set up a schedule for these discussions ahead of time so that employees can plan their time.

Delegation of responsibility

This point is one of the most important when talking about how to become a better leader. So, of course, if you become a boss, then you are doing your job well. However, this does not mean that you have to do everything yourself. One of them is to teach other employees to work well. You need to start small. At first, give subordinates such tasks that, in case of incorrect execution, can be easily corrected. Gradually train and empower your employees. At the same time, take into account their strengths and weaknesses and move on to more difficult and responsible tasks. This will help your employees not only grow professionally, but also increase their value to the company.

Communication

The qualities of a good leader are inconceivable without communication skills and openness for their subordinates. So, make it clear and periodically remind employees that if they have any questions or difficulties, they can always contact you directly. Communication, built in this way, will help you to quickly learn about problems and, accordingly, quickly solve them.

In addition, show genuine interest in your subordinates. You should not communicate with them in a purely businesslike tone. Ask employees how they were feeling, how they spent the night before, who they supported during the last football game, etc. Tell us a little about yourself. In other words, connect with them. Believe me, people value attention to themselves and will surely respond to you with loyalty. However, do not go too far. For example, do not ask subordinates about overly personal matters such as family life, religious beliefs, etc.

Learn from mistakes

First of all, allow your employees to be wrong. Of course, you should not turn a blind eye to such phenomena, however, as they say, you should not give a thrashing to subordinates on every trifle either. Otherwise, people will be afraid to come to you with their problem or even try to hide the fact of an error, which can negatively affect the results of the work of your organization as a whole. Therefore, remember that we are all human and we have the right to be wrong.

Another important principle that helps answer the question "how to become a better leader" is the ability to admit your own mistakes. So, if something did not go as you expected, do not hesitate and discuss what happened with the team, trying to figure out what should be done to achieve the result. This approach will show employees that you too can be wrong, and will also teach you how to correct your own flaws.

Use egalitarianism

If you are seriously thinking about how to become a better leader, then pay close attention to this item. After all, most of us are not really as egalitarian as we think. Quite often, we single out favorites and favorites on a subconscious level, without realizing it. As a result, we all know that it is not uncommon for the boss to recognize mostly the merits of those people who constantly remind him of themselves and in every possible way express their devotion and loyalty. At the same time, the contribution of employees who modestly and painstakingly performs their work is often underestimated. Therefore, pull yourself together and try to give people due not in connection with their attitude towards you, but according to the results of their work.

In addition, always follow the rule that absolutely all of your subordinates must be treated well. Believe me, this will have an extremely positive effect both on the microclimate in the team and on the results of work.

Can a lady be a great boss?

This issue has recently become very relevant. Therefore, if you are thinking about how to become a good leader for a woman, then take into account that there is no special secret here. However, practice shows that it is women who are often more effective bosses than representatives of the strong half of humanity. It's pretty easy to explain. After all, a woman throughout her life has to simultaneously concentrate on a greater number of tasks and goals than a man. Accordingly, this is reflected in her leadership abilities.

Additional qualities of a good leader

Always remember that respect, understanding and recognition of our merits drives us forward. In this regard, always be as loyal to your subordinates as possible. So, a good leader always knows his employees by name, and is also aware of their affairs. Always support your employees by lending a helping hand in difficult times. May your doors always be open. In addition, the qualities of a good leader are unthinkable without honesty and responsibility to subordinates. Do not hide the state of affairs or your plans from them. Believe me, all people value the trust placed in them.
