Color laser printer - we make a choice for the home. Color printers for the home - rating of the best models Brother MFC-L8900CDW - for efficient office work

The best color laser printers for home and small office

The first group in our review are machines that are capable of producing full color images, but do not have high performance. Used primarily at home or in small offices. First, let's say a few words about the manufacturers.

  1. Canon- a world-famous brand of printers and other printing devices (in this rating, we are talking only about printers, excluding copiers, MFPs, and other printing machines). Founded in the late 30s of the last century in Japan. The headquarters and key production facilities are located there to this day.
  2. Brother Industries Ltd is another Japanese company on our list, but it is already a product of globalization. The company appeared on the horizons of big business just a few decades ago and managed to develop into a large transnational corporation with production facilities in many countries.
  3. Ricoh Company Ltd.- the third transnational "Japanese" in our first list. No worse than the first three, and in some places better, especially in terms of the range (it also produces cameras, digital cameras and similar devices).
  4. Finally, the undisputed giant of the market is an American company Hewlett Packard, namely its divisions specializing in the production of laser printers. It does not require special introductions, since this name has long become a legend.

The first small office laser printer in Expertology's ranking is Canon's popular laser printer. This is a rather ascetic device in terms of design with dimensions of 400x223x398 mm, weight of 12.3 kg and an average power consumption of about 868 W in operating mode.

As for the resolution, it is a maximum of 600x2400dpi for b/w and color printing. As for the print speed, everything will depend on the color. So, on one color (monochrome printing), the machine will produce 16 sheets per minute. With full-color printing, this figure will be 4 times lower.

It takes 66 seconds for the full warm-up time of the drum to dispense the first copy of this model. The first image comes out within 13.6 sec (monochrome) and 24.7 sec respectively – full color.

There are no frills in terms of built-in support for online printing in this model: built-in PostScript support is not implemented, the amount of RAM is only 16 MB, the resource of each individual color cartridge is almost the same as the resource of black - 1.2 thousand pages - black and 1 thousand pages - any color.

The device is connected via a universal USB 2.0 port, which is found in every computer. The operating noise level should nominally not exceed 50 dB.

There is one feature in this laser printer that is typical for Canon printers - special dimensions of the paper tank up to 216x355 mm and support for Canon's "proprietary" language - CAPT, using which a noticeable increase in print quality is possible.

Today, a computer without peripherals loses much in terms of functionality to a computer with additional equipment. Among its components is a printer that allows you to display text and graphic information on paper. Every year there are new models of these devices, whose total number is measured in tens, if not hundreds of items. It is difficult for a non-specialist to understand this diversity. That is why we decided to prepare this rating, in which we conduct a comparative analysis of the most popular models at the beginning of 2014, based on their functional characteristics.

Where to Buy the Best Business Printer

Printers can be purchased from various places:

in large retail chains. Here the prices are low, but the assortment is very small.

in computer stores. Good range for home use and low prices.

in specialized stores. Prices here are not much different from computer stores, but the range is the largest possible for the most demanding customers.

Rating of laser printers

Laser printers work on the principle of applying toner to paper and then melting it with a laser, after which it is securely fixed to the paper. The disadvantage of this type of printing is the difficulty in creating color images, which is why color laser printers are often used on an industrial or commercial scale. However, the advantage of laser technology is high quality and speed of printing, durability of ink, low noise level and low cost of printing.

These printers print using tiny nozzles on the print head. In this way, they spray ink onto the printed surface. This technology has many disadvantages:

  • high cost of consumables;
  • poor print quality;
  • requirements for the printed surface;
  • drying of the print head;
  • and many others.

However, due to low cost, good speed, versatility and low noise level, such printers are still quite common among consumers.

  • Black and white print speed: 11 pages per minute.
  • Color print speed: 8 pages per minute.
  • Tray capacity: 80 sheets.

Rating of 3D printers

Printers capable of printing three-dimensional objects have appeared on the market relatively recently. This is a relatively crude technology that still needs to be improved. However, even so, she managed to create huge demand and open up great opportunities.

Today's 3D printers are very expensive, large in size, and the cost of printing them is quite high. However, here are a few devices that deserve the attention of the buyer.

Basically a standard 3D printer. Good print area, mid-sized printer and solid construction. However, for the sake of this, the weight of the device was increased to 20 kilograms, which made it possible to make a stable structure on which accurate printing can be carried out.

  • Print area: 200x200x200 millimeters.
  • Material: ABS plastic 1.75 mm.
  • Dimensions of the device: 340x355x355 millimeters.
  • Weight: 20 kilograms.
  • Advantages: high printing accuracy, reliable design.
  • Disadvantages: high cost of printing.

Pretty compact and nice 3D printer, which has a very good functionality.

  • Print area: 140x140x140 millimeters.
  • Material: ABS plastic, PLA 1.75 mm.
  • Device dimensions: 260x260x340 millimeters.
  • Weight: 4.3 kilograms.
  • Advantages: compact size, reliable design, stylish design.
  • Disadvantages: high cost of printing, small print sizes, cost of the printer.

This printer has a fairly large print area, but this affected the dimensions of the device itself. The dimensions of the printer are quite large, and the construction is light. This casts doubt on the accuracy of the print. However, the cost fully justifies this doubt.

  • Print area: 285x153x155 millimeters.
  • Material: PLA plastic.
  • Device dimensions: 490x320x380 millimeters.
  • Weight: 11.5 kilograms.
  • Advantages: large print area, print accuracy.
  • Disadvantages: large size of the printer, cost of the printer, high cost of printing, only one type of plastic is used.

Stratasys Mojo

A professional 3D printer that allows you not only to create creative and creative products, but also to print full-fledged parts and other things needed in everyday life. The print quality here is quite high, and the closed print surface allows you to protect the process from adverse influences.

  • Weight: 8 kilograms.
  • Advantages: small size of the printer, reliable design, high quality and accuracy of printing.
  • Cons: Printer cost.
  • Although print speed is one of the main features of 3D printers, it is quite difficult to define it. After all, everything depends on the accuracy of the model, its shape, size, plastic and much more.

    The best printers of 2014 - results / ranking

    Thanks to this analysis of offers in the printer market, it is possible to determine the best models of various types. Samsung CLP-365W is the leader among laser printers. This is a versatile printer that allows you to print color and black and white images. Having a good resolution, it provides high print quality, good speed, and a good management interface.

    Among the inkjet printers, Epson L355 can be distinguished, which has the best performance in its category. Although the Brother MFC-J825DW is on par with it, Epson has better print clarity as well as a user-friendly interface. The picture quality is good, and the speed allows you to print large amounts of information in a short time.

    3D printers are a separate issue. Although it all depends on the requirements of the client, the Hyrel E2 Hobbyist can still be called the best copy. Extremely good build quality, accurate printing, compact size and large print space. Considering that its cost is not so high, today it is the best option for buying a 3D printer.

    As for the best home printer, everything is individual. You need to think about what is expected from this device. And based on this, choose the most optimal option that meets the requirements.

    Best printer 2014 - detailed description

    Still, the best printer for universal use can be called Samsung CLP-365W. Relatively inexpensive price, wide functionality, excellent quality and speed of printing - all this makes this printer the best among market offers. This is a good option for office and home use, because the dimensions of this device are quite small.

    Advantages of this printer:

    • good print quality;
    • high speed;
    • Wi-Fi connection available;
    • good interface and management;
    • low price.

    This is only a part of all the advantages that this printer has. However, there are also disadvantages here:

    • high printing cost.

    Perhaps this is the only drawback that still cannot go unnoticed. The price of cartridges is high, and here they need as many as four.

    Since all the advantages and disadvantages have already been discussed, we can only say that the price category and print quality make this printer accessible to everyone. A wide choice of interfaces, speed, low noise level and ease of use of this printer make it the best on the market.

    Where to buy printers at competitive prices

    This company specializes in the sale of modern printers. The range includes both laser and inkjet models from the world's leading manufacturers. A wide range of products and high professionalism of consultants will allow any buyer to make their choice and choose the best printer for themselves. Be sure that here you will find a model that will meet your requirements.

    In the recent past, printers, fax machines, scanners and, of course, a huge copier were indispensable attributes of a successful office. Only a few could organize all this diversity at home. But times have changed, multifunctional devices have appeared. Contrary to the fears of skeptics, inkjet printing has not sunk into oblivion with the advent of laser printers. Its higher quality is also used in MFPs. In addition, the cost of such units is much lower than their laser counterparts. Now anyone has the opportunity to fully work with documents and print photos at home. In our rating - the most popular and best models of inkjet MFPs in 2019.

    Which inkjet MFP is better?

    The inkjet MFP segment was occupied by four well-known brands: Epson, Canon, Hewlett-Packard and Brother. The rest of the firms operating in the inkjet printing market are either not represented by any MFP models at all, or they are not very popular.

    It is difficult to single out a clear favorite from the above four. In terms of the number of models produced, all except Brother have almost equal positions. The latter company is represented by a point, but its products are quite competitive in their niches.

    Epson and Canon products are hugely popular, and these brands compete with each other in the market in every price range. HP broke away from them only in the segment of professional MFPs - plotters, where the maximum print format reaches A0 size.

    So which inkjet MFPs offered to the Russian consumer are considered the best?

    We will make a reservation right away: we compiled this rating solely on the basis of customer reviews. We did not include in it those models that were either negatively reviewed or not commented at all. Therefore, this rating can include both expensive and sophisticated models, as well as budget ones. And in general: it cannot be considered objective - keep this in mind if you use it to select a printer.

    Before we go directly to the rating, you should answer yourself a question.

    Choosing a laser printer for the home

    Laser printers are good because the cost of printing in them is low. In addition, they feature fast printing speeds, making them ideal for offices. For the home, people most often buy inkjet models with color printing technology - they are inexpensive. But a color laser printer will be very expensive, but it is preferable for home use, because. allows you to print not only documents, but also photos.

    A few words about the cost of operation. Few people understand, but this parameter is one of the most important when choosing. Usually people pay attention to the initial cost of the device and forget that further operation is the biggest cost item. Usually cheap laser printers and MFPs have a small cartridge and drum life, therefore, they have to be changed often (there is still a cartridge you can refill a couple of times, then the drum has to be changed completely), and this involves spending money. Having overpaid once when buying an expensive laser printer with a long drum and cartridge resource, you can save money in the future. It turns out that expensive laser printers have a low cost per document. Of course, this is more important for offices where you need to print very, very often, but it also matters when choosing.

    Printer Rating

    1st - HP LaserJet Pro P1102w ($160)

    Deservedly takes first place HP LaserJet Pro P1102w worth $160. This is a device with black and white printing technology and a fairly large resource - 5,000 pages per month. Standard print resolution - 600x600 dpi, speed 18 pages per minute.

    One advantage is the 1600 page yield cartridge (usually 1000 page yield), which makes the cost per print lower. There is also wi-fi, which is another plus: it is not necessary to install it near the computer.

    Reviews about this printer are positive, so we put it in first place. This is a high-quality product with a high-capacity cartridge - it lasts for a long time even with frequent use.

    The disadvantages here are banal: the price, slow wi-fi, short cable and the complexity of setting up wireless printing. Actually, that's all.

    2nd place - HP LaserJet Pro P1102 ($120)

    A good printer for a small office or home with b/w laser printing technology. Unlike the previous one, this model is connected exclusively via the usb interface.

    However, the rest of the parameters are the same:

    • resolution: 600x600 dpi;
    • cartridge yield: 1600 pages;
    • print speed: 16 pages;
    • productivity: 5000 pages per month.

    This is a compact device that is easy and quick to set up. It is convenient and resource-intensive, because of the high-capacity cartridge, the cost of printing is reduced, which cannot but please the owner.

    There are also disadvantages, but the most important of them is the cartridge, which, after refilling, prints either very dimly or “swears” at the lack of toner. However, the cartridges are not meant to be refilled. It is believed that they must be changed completely after the consumption of the entire resource.

    3rd place - Panasonic KX-MB1500 ($130)

    Slightly more expensive printer with b/w printing up to 18 pages per minute. Unlike previous models, this is not just a printer, but an MFP - a multifunctional device that also includes a scanner and a copier.

    Its productivity is also 5,000 pages per month, the standard resolution is 600x600 dpi (like a copier). Productively claims that the kit comes with a cartridge designed for 2500 pages, which is much more than the resource of cartridges of previous models in the rating.

    The device collects positive feedback from customers, and this is quite logical: this is an excellent and inexpensive MFP that works quietly and quickly. The device is reliable and due to the high-capacity cartridge, printing is cheap.

    As for the shortcomings, we can highlight: a weak scanner, bad scanner software and the fact that it sometimes jams sheets at the exit. All in all, this is an almost perfect and cheap MFP for a home or even a small office.

    4th place - Brother DCP-7057R ($160)

    Another representative of the MFP family, which is equipped with one of the best printers. It is inexpensive, practical and fully meets the criteria of our today's rating, so we included it in this rating.

    Immediately about the main thing: productivity is 10,000 pages per month, which allows you to print about 300 pages per day. The device has a resolution of 2400x600, and its speed is 20 pages per minute.

    The cartridge, however, is a weak point - its resource is only 1000 pages, and with such a high performance, this is very small. However, judging by customer reviews, it refills quickly and easily, the toner counter is easily reset, and this allows you to continue printing pages after refilling. This significantly reduces the cost of ownership and makes this model one of the best among black and white MFPs.

    Otherwise, everything is fine too: speed, print quality, convenient and simple software - everything is on top. Recommended.

    5th place - HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125rnw ($195)

    And again, an MFP with black and white printing technology. This model is equipped with an Ethernet port and Wi-fi, which allows you to make it a network device. Only this suggests that the device is primarily intended for offices, but, judging by customer reviews, it is also convenient to use it at home.

    The main thing:

    • productivity: 8000 pages per month;
    • resolution: 600x600 dpi;
    • 1500 page yield cartridge.

    Despite the presence of Wi-fi, the device does not have any unique features. In general, it is good: it prints quickly, and it does it efficiently, quickly and easily configured, the cartridge has a pretty good resource, and after the end of the toner it is quite easy to refill and use again. This is one of the main advantages, so we can recommend this model with a clear conscience.

    6th place - Kyocera FS-1040 ($110)

    Inexpensive laser printer with black and white printing technology Kyocera FS-1040. According to the manufacturer, the device is designed for a small office, which is consistent with its characteristics.

    Productivity is 10,000 pages per month, resolution 600x600 dpi, print speed up to 20 sheets per minute, comes with a cartridge with a resource of 2500 pages. Even the drum resource is indicated - 100,000 prints, which is a very solid indicator.

    In their reviews, buyers characterize this model as a “workhorse for the office”, however, given its possible price, this is one of the best options for the home. The cartridge is refillable, which we attribute to the merits.

    As for the shortcomings, we first of all highlight the design: everything is assembled on latches, without any reliable fasteners. Therefore, it should be used very, very carefully. Also, some buyers indicate “buggy” software, but such reviews are rare.

    7th place - Ricoh SP 111SU ($130)

    MFP from a little-known manufacturer with black and white laser printing technology. The model is intended for a small office, but it is quite suitable for the home.

    If you skip the copier and scanner and stop only at the printer, then the model turned out to be very successful:

    • productivity: 10,000 pages per month;
    • resolution: 600x600 dpi;
    • cartridge yield: up to 2000 pages

    One of the main advantages is refillable cartridges. The manufacturer is not opposed to users refilling the cartridges themselves and even sells a special toner. It works well: it does not jam the paper, the print quality is good. He works out his money 100%, as the users themselves say.

    8th place - Ricoh SP 111 (70-75 dollars)

    Again, a model from the manufacturer Ricoh, which is ideal for the home. This is one of the cheapest printers, which will cost only $ 75 (perhaps the cheapest in this ranking).

    The productivity is 10,000 pages per month, the print resolution is 1200x600 dpi, the cartridge for 2000 prints is included, which makes the cost of printing very cheap. In addition, the original cartridge can be refilled, which is a big plus.

    Hello.

    I think that I will not discover America by saying that a printer is an extremely useful thing. Moreover, not only for students (who simply need it to print term papers, reports, diplomas, etc.), but also for other users.

    Now on sale you can find various types of printers, the price of which can differ tenfold. This is probably why there are a lot of questions regarding the printer. In this short help article, I will cover the most popular printer questions that I get asked (the information will be useful for those who are choosing a new printer for their home). So…

    The article has omitted some technical terms and points in order to make it understandable and readable for a wide range of users. Only topical user questions that almost everyone faces when looking for a printer are analyzed ...

    1) Types of printers (inkjet, laser, dot matrix)

    This is where most of the questions come in. True, users do not raise the question of “types of printers”, but “which printer is better: inkjet or laser?” (for example).

    In my opinion, the easiest way is to show the pros and cons of each type of printer in the form of a plate: it turns out very clearly.

    Printer type

    pros

    Minuses

    Inkjet (most models are color)

    1) The cheapest type of printers. More than affordable for all segments of the population.

    1) Ink often dries up when you have not printed for a long time. In some printer models, this may lead to the replacement of the cartridge, in others - the replacement of the print head (in some, the repair cost will be comparable to buying a new printer). Therefore, a simple advice - print on an inkjet printer at least 1-2 pages a week.

    2) Relatively simple refilling of the cartridge - with some skill, you can refill the cartridge yourself using a syringe.

    2) The ink runs out quickly (the ink cartridge is usually small in size, enough for 200-300 A4 sheets). The original cartridge from the manufacturer is usually expensive. Therefore, the best option is to give such a cartridge for refilling (or refuel it yourself). But after refueling, often, the print becomes not so clear: there may be stripes, specks, areas where characters and text are poorly printed.

    3) Ability to install continuous ink supply (CISS). In this case, an ink bottle is placed on the side (or back) of the printer and the tube from it is connected directly to the print head. As a result, the cost of printing is one of the cheapest! (Attention! Not all printer models can do this!)

    3) Vibration during operation. The fact is that the printer moves the print head left and right when printing - this causes vibration. For many users, this is extremely annoying.

    4) Ability to print photos on special paper. The quality will be much higher than on a color laser printer.

    4) Inkjet printers take longer to print than laser printers. In a minute you will print ~ 5-10 pages (despite the promises of the printer developers, the actual print speed is always less!).

    5) Printed sheets are subject to "spreading" (if they accidentally fall, for example, drops of water from wet hands). The text on the sheet is blurry and it will be problematic to make out what is written.

    Laser (black and white)

    1) One refill of the cartridge is enough to print 1000-2000 sheets (on average for the most popular printer models).

    1) The cost of the printer is higher than the inkjet.

    2) Works, as a rule, with less noise and vibration than a jet.

    2) Expensive cartridge refilling. A new cartridge on some models costs like a new printer!

    3) The cost of printing a sheet, on average, is cheaper than on an inkjet machine (excluding CISS).

    3) Inability to print color documents.

    4) You can not be afraid for the "drying" of paint * (in laser printers, not liquid is used, as in an inkjet printer, but powder (it is called toner)).

    5) Fast printing speed (2 dozen pages with text per minute - quite capable).

    Laser (color)

    1) High speed printing in color.

    1) A very expensive device (although recently the cost of a color laser printer has become more affordable for a wide range of consumers).

    2) Despite the possibility of printing in color, it is not suitable for photographs. The quality on an inkjet printer will be higher. But to print documents in color - that's it!

    matrix

    1) This type of printer is outdated* (for home use). Currently, it is usually used only in “narrow” tasks (when working with some reports in banks, etc.).

    My conclusions:

    1. If you buy a printer for printing photos, it is better to choose a regular inkjet printer (preferably the model on which you can later install continuous ink supply - relevant for those who will print a lot of photos). The inkjet is also suitable for those who print small documents from time to time: abstracts, reports, etc.
    2. A laser printer is, in principle, a station wagon. Suitable for all users, except for those who plan to print high-quality color pictures. A color laser printer in terms of photo quality (today) is inferior to an inkjet. The price of the printer and cartridge (including refilling it) is more expensive, but in general, if you make a full calculation, the cost of printing will be cheaper than on an inkjet printer.
    3. Buying a color laser printer for the home is, in my opinion, not entirely justified (at least until the price of them drops ...).

    An important point. Regardless of which type of printer you choose, I would also clarify one detail in the same store: how much does a new cartridge for this printer cost and how much does it cost to refill (refillable). Because the joy of buying can be lost after the ink runs out - many users will be very surprised to learn that some printer cartridges cost as much as the printer itself!

    2) How to connect the printer. Connection interfaces

    The vast majority of printers that can be found on sale support the USB standard. Connection problems, as a rule, do not arise, except for one subtlety ...

    I don't know why, but often manufacturers don't include a cable to connect a printer to a computer. Sellers usually remind you of this, but not always. Many novice users (who encounter this for the first time) have to run to the store 2 times: once for the printer, the second for the connection cable. Be sure to check the package when buying!

    The LPT interface is now becoming less and less common (it used to be a standard (very popular interface)). By the way, many PCs are still equipped with this port to be able to connect such printers. For the home in our time to look for such a printer - there is no point!

    WiFi and Bluetooth

    More expensive printers are often equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. And I must tell you - the thing is extremely convenient! Imagine walking around the apartment with a laptop, working on a report - then you press the print button and the document is sent to the printer and printed out in a moment. In general, this add. the option in the printer will save you from unnecessary wires in the apartment (although the document is transferred to the printer longer - but in general, the difference is not so significant, especially if you print text information).

    3) MFP - is it worth choosing a multi-functional device?

    Recently, MFPs have been in demand on the market: devices in which a printer and a scanner are combined (+ fax, sometimes also a telephone). These devices are extremely convenient for photocopies - put a sheet and press one button - the copy is ready. Otherwise, personally, I don’t see any big advantages (having a separate printer and scanner - the second one can be removed altogether and taken out when you just need to scan something).

    In addition, any normal camera can also take excellent photos of books, magazines, etc. - that is, it can practically replace a scanner.

    HP MFP: Scanner and Printer Bundled with Auto-Sheet Feeder

    Advantages of the MFP:

    Multi-functionality;

    Cheaper than if you buy each device separately;

    Quick photocopy;

    As a rule, there is an auto-feed: imagine how much easier it will be for you if you copy 100 sheets. With auto-feed: loaded the sheets into the tray - pressed the button and went to drink tea. Without it, each sheet would have to be turned over and placed on the scanner manually ...

    MFP cons:

    Bulky (relative to a conventional printer);

    If the MFP breaks, you will lose both the printer and the scanner (and other devices) at once.

    4) Which brand should I choose: Epson, Canon, HP…?

    Lots of questions about the brand. But here the answer is monosyllabic - unrealistic. Firstly, I would not look at a specific manufacturer - the main thing is that it be a well-known manufacturer of copiers. Secondly, it is much more important to look at the technical characteristics of the device and the reviews of real users of such a device (in the age of the Internet, this is easy!). Even better, of course, if you are recommended by some friend who has several printers at work and sees the work of everyone with his own eyes ...

    To name a specific model is even more difficult: by the time you read the article, this printer may no longer be on sale ...

    That's all for me. I would be grateful for additions and constructive comments. All the best 🙂
