The Rex rabbit accidentally appeared in France at the beginning of the 20th century. The animals of the Belgian giant breed gave birth to rabbits with short and dense fur. The fur coat of these rabbits resembled the fur of a beaver and chinchilla, and the breeder decided to secure the new breed for himself, calling it according to his name - "Castor Rex". He introduced these animals to the general public a little later, at a rabbit exhibition. Thanks to the beautiful and thick fur, the representatives of the breed immediately attracted attention, and breeders from many countries of the world began to breed them.

Fur characteristic

Rex fur resembles chinchilla skins in quality, for which the animal was given another name - chinchilla rabbit. He has delicious meat (a property inherited from the Belgian giant) and high-quality fur, which is used in the production of fur coats. Skins of value to fur manufacturers must have:

The villi should not crumble, and their length should be 2 cm.

The size of the animal is medium: at eight months, it weighs from 3 to 5.5 kg, and the skins are small in size. For sewing a beautiful and high-quality fur coat of medium length, they will be required in an amount of at least 25 pieces. Unlike the fur of ordinary rabbits, whose wool has an undercoat, a downy base and guard hairs of different lengths, in a Rex they are of the same size and density. Equal bristles provide the velor effect of the wool. Rex skins come in these colors:

• redhead;

• chestnut shade.

The quality of the hairline does not depend on the color of the rex rabbit. In any shade, it is equally plush and pleasant to the touch.

Rex fur is great for making fur coats... He has light skins with high-quality pile. They are practically indistinguishable from the expensive chinchilla fur. Their fur coats are light and beautiful, and the pile can be painted in any color. But most often, manufacturers of winter clothing leave a natural color - this way the product looks more like a thing made of chinchilla fur.

Women appreciate Rex products for their beauty and practicality. This fur coat can be worn for up to 6 years.

The density and quality of the pile of chinchilla rabbit skins, as well as the price of products from them, depend on the place of breeding of animals. Natural fur products from Spain and Germany are more expensive, as they are of better quality than things from China, which are cheaper, but do not meet the required standards. More expensive fur coats retain heat better and wear out less.

The cost of products is also reflected in the complexity of their sewing and the price of the materials used. Stores offer both fur coats exclusively from rex skins and outerwear with combined fur and the addition of leather fabric.

To buy a quality product made from rex skins, it is better to go shopping in a specialized store. The fur coat must be viewed in daylight: this way all defects, if any, will be noticeable. The fur should be shiny, the skin soft and supple.

The quality of the hide is of great importance for durability. To check it, you need to shake the fur coat. If it rustles, then the skins are poorly processed. It is better to leave such a product in the store and look for a better item.

Rex fur should not crumble. It is easy to check this by running a damp hand against the growth of the fleecy cover. If there are no hairs left on the palm, the fur coat is of high quality.

Caring for a natural product made of rex fur

Rules for caring for a rex fur product:

1. 1. When exposed to rain or sleet, the fur coat must be dried at room temperature by hanging it on a trempel with wide shoulders away from heating appliances.
2. 2. When the fur is dry, you need to comb it with a special comb. First, according to the growth of the hairline, then against, and then fluff the pile a little.
3. 3. During the warm season, the product should be stored in a special case, with the addition of tablets or any other moth repellent.

Once every 2-3 years, the fur coat must be dry-cleaned. This will help maintain the attractive appearance of the product for a longer time.
