Important and interesting about candle paints

How to make a candle more elegant and attractive?

It can be painted in any color and you will get an original decorative product. For this, dyes are often added to the wax mass during the manufacturing process. This method allows you to completely change the color of the candle. But in order to create a certain pattern or pattern, you need to use special paints for painting candles (surface painting).

Painted candles with acrylic paints

Acrylic paints are water-based dyes. Thanks to this, it is very easy to mix them on the palette without adding special components and to obtain unique colors and shades, and you can create complex patterns on the surface of the candle. As in painting, brushes of different thicknesses are used for this, which allows you to play with the width of the lines and the smoothness of the transition from color to color.

  • Engraving on a decorative candle

The best and most original gift is the one that you made with your own hands. In order to make a decorative candle, you need a DREMEL ® engraver. This lightweight and compact tool will allow you to engrave and decorate a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, wood and leather.

Materials required to make a decorative candle:

    • candle
    • tracing paper
    • thick needle
    • dye
    • DREMEL ® engraver

Step 1: prepare a drawing for painting on a candle

First, measure the height and circumference of the candle. The height and diameter of our candle is 8 cm. Transfer the measurements to paper and cut out. Draw a simple drawing on the sheet. The pattern can be taken from wrapping paper, from fabric, or it can mimic patterns on your favorite pillow or curtains. When the drawing is complete, wrap the paper around the candle.

Step 2: painting on the candle

Use a thick needle to transfer the painting onto the candle.

Step 3: finalizing the decorative candle

Now put your DREMEL ® Engraver into first gear. The use of this almost weightless tool will not raise any questions even for beginners. After making sure you are holding the tool straight, trace the outline of the drawing on the decorative candle. You just need to very lightly touch the tip to the surface of the decorative candle, without pressing, as if you were drawing with an ordinary pencil.

Wipe off excess wax from the surface with a tea towel or napkin. Finally, paint on the engraved surface with paint and your gift is ready!

    Painted with acrylic paints

The most affordable material for painting candles is acrylic paints, which are known for their versatility and paint well on almost any surface. With the help of acrylic paints on candles, you can create rather complex multi-color drawings with smooth color transitions using basic painting techniques.

The paints are mixed on a palette, which can be used as an ordinary white earthenware plate. Various hair brushes - round and flat - are used to apply the pattern and obtain a variety of painting effects.

An interesting technique is that paint of different colors is applied to the two halves of the tip of a wide flat brush, and then, with one stroke, lines and shapes (petals, leaves, etc.) are obtained on the candle with a smooth transition from one color to another. Thus, you can achieve a natural volume and depth of the picture.

However, sometimes water-based paints do not fit well on the surface of the candle, therefore, in some cases, before starting the painting process, the candle is wiped with a cloth dipped in an alcohol solution, and a little detergent is added to the paint.

There is another, much more professional tool that allows you to easily apply paint to the surface - a varnish for decorating candles, which increases the adhesion properties of paints (i.e. improves the adhesion of paint particles to wax or paraffin). It is a special water-based, non-flammable varnish that contains acrylates and paraffin wax. Due to its composition, the varnish does not smoke and does not emit a smell when the candle burns.

Varnish is applied to the surface of the candle before painting. Then he is allowed to dry and the candle is painted with acrylics. After the paint layer has dried, another layer of varnish is applied to the candle, which reliably fixes the pattern. In addition, such varnishes give the surface of the candle various additional effects - glossy, silky and others.

    Painting with special contours

For making ornaments, arabesques and inscriptions on candles, it is very convenient to use special contour paints for candles on a liquid wax base. They are also specially formulated to make them non-flammable and soot-free. The applied design melts with the wax as the candle burns out.

Painting is done directly with the narrow tip of a tube of contour paint, which is convenient for drawing and writing like a regular pencil. In this case, you need to slightly press on the tube so that the paint evenly falls over the pattern. At the end of the painting, the paint is allowed to dry for 24 hours and a layer of candle varnish is applied.

Pencil paint leaves a subtle volumetric mark, which creates an additional beautiful relief effect. It is not very convenient to mix such paints, moreover, they have a pasty consistency, so they cannot be used to create a realistic pictorial drawing on a candle.

A mixed technique can also be used in candle painting: a pictorial drawing with acrylic paints is perfectly complemented by an ornament or an inscription applied with a liquid wax outline.

    Good day to all)

I haven't been here for a long time, I'm improving) During the time that I was absent, a lot of all sorts of wonderful and wonderful things happened)
My dream came true - I painted an ethnic leather drum))) I was glad like a little child) The henna paste has not yet been removed in the photo, after that the hostess showed it to me with the henna removed, the paste was well absorbed and a bright brown pattern remained, it is almost eternal)

Further, I was fascinated by the making of candles and their painting, I liked simple geometric shapes more. they can be painted. In the photo is the first, meaningful schedule by me candle. I used a special liquid wax for painting candles.

Cleaning up the closet, I found hamster bins from last year, decided that I needed to do something about it and these handsome men appeared) I painted with acrylic contours, I really liked it. I still have a lot of them, I plan to paint everything before NG. I will give away a part, I will probably put up a part for sale)

Again the same candles, top view) I thought that the tops of the heads deserve special attention. Against the background of the mandala, which I drew on black paper with acrylic outlines, she will soon go to a good girl in another city.
And here I have a question: has anyone come across the sending of A3 format by mail? You can't crush, unless you roll it into a tube, there is a plastic tube. Can you tell me to do so that she gets together to the addressee?

Then again a candle, but I spoke about them already above. And the casket was expensively richly painted))) There was an ordinary casket, wooden, rough, inconspicuous, stood for a long time, about a year, one day I realized that something had to be done and sandpaper, black and gold acrylic in the contours were used and a bit of imagination) Against the background is another mandala, drawn again by me with a white gel pen on black A3 format.

The stones brought from the VotEtno festival in Altai also went into consumption and became so cute from simple gray ones) I now call them stones of desires)

And also, now I am preparing henna myself, in the photo it is in red cones, well, and a sample of toting on a pebble)

I've seen enough of magicians who do wonders with eggs, I decided to try it too) The engraving came out quite easily, but artistic drilling of holes has not yet been successful, but I will take this fortress, I just need to practice)
