Equipment canyon 85. Personal opinion about used backpacks. Terms of work with corporate clients

I decided to write my opinion about the backpacks I used on hikes over the past 12 years.

In total, it was 4 backpacks: "Marching 65" from Splav; "Canyon 85", "Pharaoh 95", "Huntsman 100" from Equipment.
Each of them has its own range of use, its pros and cons.
Now more about each of them:
one. " Marching 65» from Splav. This is the oldest of my backpacks, which I have been walking with for 12 years now. He went with him about 100 PVD in the Zhiguli, more than 25 hiking, skiing and water trips in the South Urals. For all the time of its operation, I replaced only 2 accessories on the shoulder straps. Not a single seam, not a single strap has yet been torn, not dispersed. A piece of fabric on the right shoulder strap swung a little. This is how it looks now:

The photo was taken by one of the participants at the end of October this year in Zhiguli.
Advantages:
- ideal (in my opinion) volume for 2-3 day PVD and short, simple hikes (up to 9-10 days);
- light weight, less than 750 gr;
- for the above purposes, it has an excellent margin of safety, despite the seemingly thin fabric;
- wide shoulder straps;
- the presence of a large, voluminous pocket at the back and a sufficiently voluminous pocket on the valve;
- three pairs of side ties (although the upper ones are not particularly needed);

- reinforced double bottom;
- at the time when I bought it, it was the best option in terms of price / quality combination (it cost only 650 rubles).
Disadvantages:
- the shoulder straps and the belt are not rigid enough, when carrying a weight of more than 20 kg, this becomes very noticeable.
Recommendations:
This pack is great for 2-3 day trekking and short, easy hikes (up to 9-10 days) with a weight of up to 20 kg (I carried a maximum of 25 kg in it).
2. " Canyon 85» from Equipment (old model 2005, current model slightly different). I bought this backpack specifically for mountain hiking in the Caucasus. I was with him in the Caucasus in the first two campaigns and again later (the maximum duration of the routes is 9 days). During these three trips, no minuses were revealed in the design, except for the design of the suspension and belt attachment that was not convenient for me personally. The backpack did not suit me, so I decided to sell it (it looked almost new, absolutely intact), and buy myself another one.

The photo was taken in September 2006 on the lane. Chatkara (1A*), Caucasus.
Advantages:
- sufficient (in my opinion) volume for hikes of medium duration and complexity, and with the use of throws for any hikes;

- the presence of a large pocket on the valve;
- tube;
- removable valve;
- three pairs of side straps;

- reinforced double bottom;

Disadvantages:
- the shoulder straps are a little narrow, when carrying a weight of more than 30 kg, this becomes very noticeable (he wore a maximum of 35 kg in it);
- the suspension system is not suitable for everyone (I did not like it during operation).
Recommendations:
This backpack is suitable for hikes of medium duration and difficulty, and with the use of throws for any hikes. But, you must definitely try it on yourself (like any other backpack) to accurately understand whether the suspension system of this backpack is right for you.
3. " Pharaoh 95» from Equipment. I liked this backpack as soon as I saw it and tried it on. The suspension system seemed to be made for me. If not for the weight, the backpack would be just perfect for mountain trips. I went with him 8 trips to the Caucasus. This model is suitable for long hikes of any complexity, but keep in mind that the backpack is not easy.

The photo was taken in USD. Thought it was Pasha, summer 2010
Advantages:

- for the above indicated purposes, it has a good margin of safety and wear resistance;
- Rigid shoulder straps and belt;
- the presence of a voluminous pocket at the back, on the valve, as well as secret inner pockets;
- tube;
- removable valve;
- three pairs of side straps;
- side pockets at the bottom to stop items fixed in the side ties;

- lower split valve (although I actually did not use it);
- reinforced double bottom;
- good, reliable fittings;
- at the time when I bought it, it was one of the best options in terms of price / quality ratio.
Disadvantages:
The only drawback of this backpack is its heavy weight (3.1 kg). That's why he sold it in good condition, without breaking or tearing anything.
Recommendations:
This backpack is suitable for trips of long duration and any complexity, especially with the use of throws, but not for lovers of ease of walking, as with all its convenience and reliability it is heavy.
4. " Huntsman 100» from Equipment. To replace the "Pharaoh" I took exactly this model, with which I went through the last 8 campaigns in the Caucasus and 1 in the South Urals. This is actually my ideal backpack. There is absolutely nothing superfluous in it! Only its volume is a little big for me, I would like this model to have an 80-liter counterpart.

Advantages:
- sufficient (in my opinion) volume for trips of long duration and any complexity, especially with the use of casts;
- low weight (2.3 kg) for such a powerful and durable backpack;
- for the above indicated purposes, it has a good margin of safety and wear resistance;
- Rigid shoulder straps and belt;
- the presence of a very voluminous pocket on the valve;
- tube;
- removable valve;
- four pairs of side straps;
- side pockets at the bottom to stop items fixed in the side ties;
- additional attachment points for equipment;
- reinforced double bottom;
- at the time when I bought it, it was one of the best (in my opinion, generally the best) option in terms of price / quality combination.
Disadvantages:
On my model, both upper shoulder fittings broke. They are not particularly important, but an unpleasant aftertaste from the decrease in the quality of accessories on Equipment backpacks remained .... It's good that I have in rem. the set always has spare fittings and wire. In addition, there were no flaws, breakdowns, defects.
Recommendations:
This backpack is suitable for trips of long duration and any complexity, especially with the use of throws. The best option I've ever had.

If we are already talking about personal experience in this topic, then maybe we can do without general phrases, but we will operate with specific data, such as: model name, manufacturer, technical characteristics, terms, conditions and places of operation? Some common words heavier foreign backpacks more than compensate for their weight with fantastic comfort, you can carry much more weight. As a result, their "efficiency" is much higher. personally, they don’t tell me anything, since I have (as I wrote above) the opposite experience. Compared to Pharaoh 95, similar models of Deuter and Tatonka do not benefit in anything. Or the presence of a pocket for a bottle and a couple of additional straps for equipment (which I personally don’t need on my trips) are those very comfortable compensators? Good backpack ballasting in similar models does not depend on the manufacturer, but more on how you know how to pack the backpack. The wear resistance of our models is mostly higher, they also do not lose in weight. As for the suspension, I already wrote that it was better than that of Pharaoh 95 (the Huntsman as a whole is no worse) did not meet. So what is the efficiency?
For an example of the quality of the Pharaoh 95 backpack, I will give a couple of examples, although I do not advise repeating them.
1. When descending from the lane. Subashi (1B) in 2007 we came across a small glacier. Even though it's not on the map. With heavy backpacks (this was the third day of the hike), I decided not to waste time organizing the railing and walking around, but to test the backpack for strength. Putting all the valuables in the assault backpack, I lowered my Pharaoh 95 down the snow-ice slope on my own, after which Kirill did the same with his similar backpack. Both of them flew through the entire snow-ice section (about 100 m), then 25-30 meters along the scree, after which they stopped. After we calmly went down to them lightly, we found that there was NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH, HOLE OR BREAKAGE on them!
2. In 2008, when descending from a nameless n / a pass, we encountered tall (higher than our height) thick grass. To make it easier for the participants following me, I used the Pharaoh 95 as a bulldozer, dragging it behind me, making an excellent path for them :)
This trail is visible from the opposite slope of the valley.
