American Forbes has prepared its annual ranking of the 2000 largest public companies in the world. In its calculations, Forbes equally took into account four indicators: revenue, profit, asset size and market capitalization.

The total indicators of those included in the fresh list over the past year have increased markedly. Together, the rating participants generated $32 trillion in revenue (an increase of $2 trillion), and the total profit amounted to $2.4 trillion compared to $1.4 trillion a year earlier. Forbes estimated the assets of the 2000 largest corporations at $138 trillion, and the total capitalization at $38 trillion.

The United States continues to have the largest representation, with 536 companies on the list. American leadership does not raise any questions so far: from the main competitor - Japan - 260 companies got into the rating. In addition, if in the first hundred American companies took 28 places at once, then Japanese companies only five. At the same time, the largest of them - Nippon Telegraph & Tel - is located only in 48th place. The US and Japan are followed by China (121 companies), Canada (67 companies) and South Korea (61 companies).

Representatives of the financial sector dominate in the rating (480 companies). Huge assets, of course, their main trump card. Oil and gas companies are far behind — there are 127 of them in the ranking. In terms of profit growth, insurance companies take the first place (624%), semiconductor manufacturers (45%) in terms of revenue growth, and auto concerns (57%) in terms of capitalization growth.

JPMorgan Chase ranked first for the second year in a row. Over the year, JPMorgan improved its results a little more: revenue amounted to $115.48 billion ($115.63 billion - last year), profit of $17.37 billion ($11.65 billion), assets of $2117 billion ($2031 billion), capitalization of $182.21 billion ($166.19 billion a year ago). At the same time, these indicators can hardly be called outstanding separately - JPMorgan does not even get into the top 10 in any of them.

Second place is now occupied by HSBC. The rapid growth of profits helped the British bank to rise from the eighth line: from $5.83 billion to $13.3 billion. GE's revenue for the year decreased from $156.78 billion to $150.21 billion, and the value of assets from $781 billion to $751 billion.

This is followed by three oil companies: ExxonMobil (the world leader in capitalization - $ 407.2 billion), the Dutch Shell and the Chinese PetroChina. ICBC, China's largest bank, is in 7th place, with revenues of $69.19 billion, ICBC's profit was $18.84 billion. Warren Buffett's investment fund Berkshire Hathaway, Brazil's state oil company Petrobras-Petróleo Brasil, and bank Citigroup round out the top ten.

The number of Russian companies on the list was reduced by two to 26. Three managed to break into the top hundred: Gazprom (15th), Lukoil (71st) and Rosneft (77th). Gazprom, in addition, turned out to be the third company in terms of profit - $ 25.72 billion. Only ExxonMobil ($ 30.46 billion) and Nestle ($ 36.65 billion) earned more than the Russian gas giant.

The first places in the ranking of foreign companies with the best reputation in Russia were taken by Toyota, Rolex and Bosch. The authors of the rating, analysts from the Reputation Institute, are convinced that the reputation of companies in Russia and in the rest of the world is perceived in completely different ways.

The ranking of foreign companies with the best reputation in Russia prepared for Forbes according to the Reputation Institute (RI) in 2019 was headed by the Japanese automaker Toyota. Together with him, the Swiss watch company Rolex and German Bosch entered the top three. The leader of 2017 - Volkswagen - was ninth in this year's ranking (in 2018 it was 12th), and Japanese Sony dropped to 5th from the first line in last year's ranking.

In the aviation sector, reputational leadership has been held by Lufthansa for three years, in the financial sector by Visa, and in the entertainment sector by The Walt Disney. Toyota (automotive), Rolex (consumer goods), ExxonMobil (oil and gas), Lavazza (food and beverage), Hilton Worldwide (hotels), 3M (industrial), Pfizer (pharmaceuticals), IKEA ( retail), Intel (high tech) and DHL (logistics).

In terms of the reputation of the business sectors, the automotive sector ranks first, followed by consumer goods and high technology. In the last places - finance, transport and energy. “Only 25% of people in the world consider financial institutions sincere,” notes RI. The top 100 companies with the best reputation in Russia include two payment systems (Visa and Mastercard) and HSBC bank, while the global investment banks Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley were not ranked.

The last place in terms of the reputation of sectors in Russia in 2019 was entertainment and media. RI explained this by the deterioration in the attitude of Russians towards Facebook. The Walt Disney Company (#44) and Netflix (#73) were in the top 100 most respected companies.

At the same time, in the global ranking of companies with the best reputation published by RI in March, The Walt Disney Company was on the third line (topped the Rolex list), and Netflix topped the similar American rating in April (Facebook among 390 American companies considered by reputation was on penultimate place, only The Trump Organization had a worse reputation). Today, one failure is enough to damage a company's reputation. The incident at a U.S. Collegiate Basketball game, in which rising star Zion Williamson's shoe ruptured, resulted in more than just injury to the player. The very next day, Nike shares fell by more than 1%, the company's market capitalization fell by $1.46 billion. In the RI 2019 world ranking, the company dropped from 12th to 15th place.

It doesn't work in Russia. There are regional peculiarities in the perception of companies in Russia and in the rest of the world, RI explains. In the ranking of the most respected foreign companies in the Russian market, Nike retained its 11th position. Also, the "dieselgate" had a completely different effect on the reputation of Volkswagen in Russia and in the world. In the Russian rating, the company dropped from first place in 2017 to 12th in 2018, but already in 2019 it rose to ninth. In the global and US reputation rankings, Volkswagen was not in the top 100 in 2018 and 2019.

The Reputation Institute has been preparing an annual corporate reputation survey since 2006. In Russia, the calculations are carried out by the consulting company EmCo (exclusive representative of RI).

When compiling the reputation rating of foreign companies in Russia, more than 7,000 people were interviewed. They were asked about the activities of 143 companies, selected by size and prominence. The questions concerned the emotional attitude of a person to the company (trust, respect, admiration, goodwill), perception of its activities (products, innovations, working conditions, management, leadership, efficiency, responsibility) and supportive behavior (including willingness to buy the company's product). Survey participants rated companies according to various criteria on a 100-point scale. An average score above 80 indicates an excellent reputation.

The Japanese automaker managed to bypass the German BMW and Volkswagen, which were in the lead in the ranking of the most respected foreign car brands in Russia in 2017-2018.

In the consumer goods sector, Rolex has traditionally ranked high for three years.

This year, the German company managed to outperform its Japanese rival Sony.

The Japanese company entered the top three in the consumer goods category, behind Rolex and Bosch.

The Danish company, which is always on the list of the most respected companies in the world, has shown a sharp rise in the Russian ranking - from 41st to 2nd place.

Among the most respected high-tech companies, Intel is ahead of Samsung and Apple in terms of reputation in Russia. The company also improved its position in the global reputation ranking (moved from 15th to 11th place).

The German manufacturer of sports shoes, clothing and equipment in terms of reputation both in Russia and in the world is ahead of its American competitor Nike (which ranks 11th and 15th in these ratings).

As a result of dieselgate, the German automaker has not been in the top 100 of the world ranking for the second year in a row, but has returned to the top ten most respected foreign companies in Russia.

The company's competitor, Nikon, was not included in the Russian reputation top 100.
